Решил вывести полезную информацию о системе на десктоп.
Для этого было решено использовать conky
Установил его командой
sudo apt-get install conky
далее надо было его отконфигкрировать
для этого создаем файл
touch ~/.conkyrc
И далее пишем там конфиг.
Для примера приведу свой:

В нем в принципе раобраться не сложно. Так что оставлю это на ваше рассмотрение. Единственное сделаю несколько замечаний. Т.к. Не сразу получилось настроить шрифты и вывести его на рабочий стол (по стандартным методикам было вечное мерцание и пропадали иконки на десктопе)
Отменяем запуск в фоне.

запрещаем вывод в консоль
out_to_console no
разрешаем Xft

устанавливаем Xft шрифт

И теперь самое главное. Настройки типа окна.
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
own_window_colour black
и добавляем двойной буфер

double_buffer yes
И теперь добавляем conky в автозапуск
Система->Параметры->Сеансы->Добавить
и вписываем там conky.
